if you got read yesterday *sunday star newspaper* (it was yesterday when i started typing but im not sure when i will have this posted :b), you will know what i mean...there is this piece of news, keep note that i dont even wanna regard it as a news because it is something that i disagree (lately im being rebellious, often caught myself disagree with a lot of things)..the 'article'/news is about a bunch of government sector officers gathered in a place and read a book trying to break a certain record..guiness record for most people reading at same place at the same time??? doesnt really remember anymore but then it is to plant reading habit into malaysian lifestyle..but the question that crossed my mind that time was "is everyone there really interested in reading or just putting an act for the sake of breaking the record?" but then there is no way of knowing the exact answer..
the point was that i dont think everyone there is interested...sorry if i seemed like bashing someone but i dont think most malaysian, generally, have a reading habit...i remembered long long time ago when im still in primary school there is this "NILAM" project whereby kid have to read a certain amount of books per week and do a report on it.the student that read more than an amount get a cert.everyone is not reading the book at all, they borrowed the book and merely copying the summary available to avoid the punishment. i know that because it is especially famous and practical to the librarian because they have all the access to the books...
im not bragging but i do loves to read books..i think i said this before in the past, it withers very fast. this habit of reading books..it is not because im 'hangat- hangat tahi ayam" *translated = starting up something and never finish doing it* but it is because the books in malaysia is freaking expensive..the only time i can afford a book or maybe two is when there is sale or promotion buy 2 with 1 price kinda stuff..otherwise i wouldnt even able to buy one books without heartache..i was currently trying to finish up the book title "three cups of tea" by greg mortenson..guess how much is that book??? freaking rm50+. i saw the sequel of that book in taiwan and it only cost me rm30+ after converting TWD to RM..and they expect everyone to read books?? one book still ok, 10 books still ok i think but 100?? do the math, where to find so much of money just to buy books?? and there is no 2nd books store available..i saw some but it is all chinese books..i do like to have books like the guy above,in my house, but honestly as much as i love books i love other things too...unless the government do something about the price and change the system, you cant have the habit..note this, i realised practically almost everyone held a book while in the lrt.im not sure about malaysian..
ps. finish complaining..main point: reduces the books price for god's sake.my mom gonna kill me if i spent another rm100 on books.but im left with no books to read already.and i left the twilight saga in bro in law's shop so i cant re-read..

u're right! one will enjoy reading if he/ she likes to read. Pretending or make it as an event & show that there are lots of people like to read as the pictures u shown above is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI must say the books in m'sia are expensive. It is one of the reasons people rather buy less books or buy pirated books. if u r in KL, i will surely borrow you my books. sharing books with someone who like it will be a great thing!
